October Topic:
Detective Sergeant Sherman Hall on Identity Theft
Sherman Hall, Detective Sergeant with the Atherton Police Department, speaks on October 26 on identity theft. A technology expert for the police, Sherman explores how the Atherton Police Department can better leverage its resources through technology.
Sherman began his Law Enforcement career as a Reserve Officer with the Atherton Police Department in 1998. After four years as a volunteer, he was hired as a full time Officer in August 2002. He attended the Police Academy at the College of San Mateo.
This is Sherman’s second career. His first was spent in the Information Technology industry. He spent thirteen years working for Electronic Data Systems and other smaller outsourcing providers. As a police officer, he combines his Information Technology skills with law enforcement and investigates high technology crimes. In the early part of his police career, he spent the bulk of his time doing computer forensic work. He continues to testify as a court expert in high technology and identity theft cases.
Sherman grew up in Atherton. He attended three Atherton schools and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. Sherman has two children and lives locally with his wife, Donna. Sherman’s parents are also Atherton residents

September Meeting Recap
The first meeting of the 2010-2011 season was held on Tuesday, September 28. The kick-off meeting starts a bit earlier than usual and includes hosted hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Thank you to Borel Private Bank and Trust for hosting the reception last month.
The speaker was Tracy Herrick on The Coming American Decade. Mr. Herrick warns of continued drops in business and employment, high inflation, confrontation with China over oil and more, but ultimately the emergence of a new and more efficient economic business model. He does believe that certain key markets will rebound in the next year. Stock prices and important raw materials prices, including gold and copper, could appreciate over the coming year and a half. This is likely to be accompanied by tax policy changes, a cutback in social entitlements, and inflation beginning in late 2011.
For more on Mr. Herrick's views, you can ask to be added to his e-mail newsletter list at TGHerrick@aol.com.
